The Best Laptop for Blender 2022

Which laptop is the best for Blender in 2022? That’s a question that has been on a lot of artists’ minds lately, as they make the switch from traditional software to 3D graphics. But don’t worry – we’ve got you covered! In this blog post, we’ll take a look at some of the best laptops for Blender right now, and tell you why each one is perfect for your creative needs. So whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been using Blender for years, read on to find the perfect machine for you!

Using a Desktop vs Using a Laptop for Blender

There’s no easy answer, as it depends on your specific needs and workflow. For example, if you’re looking for portability, then a laptop is clearly the way to go. However, if you need raw power, then a desktop is the better option. Keep in mind that you can always connect a laptop to an external monitor and keyboard for a more desktop-like experience. Some laptops can even connect to an external GPU for even more power.

At the end of the day, it comes down to personal preference. Some people find that they prefer the portability of a laptop, while others find that they get more work done with a desktop. There’s no right or wrong answer, so just choose the option that best suits your needs.

The negative

Blender runs a bit slower on a laptop than it does on a desktop. This is due to the fact that laptops have less powerful CPUs and GPUs. With that said, there are laptops with very powerful GPUs too, but that will cost you. Additionally, laptops tend to have less storage space than desktops, which can be a problem if you’re working with large files.

External features must also be considered when purchasing a laptop for Blender. Take the trackpad as an example. With a trackpad, you’ll have a much more difficult time navigating 3D space in Blender’s viewport than with a mouse. Especially when zooming in and out.

There’s also the Numpad. This is a rather important gadget for someone who frequently works with 3D graphics programs like Blender. However, with Blender 2.80, the program has become significantly more user-friendly for laptop users.

The positive

The most obvious pro, is that laptops are portable. This means that you can take your work with you wherever you go. If you have a laptop, you can do your work in the park, at a coffee shop, or even on the go. Maybe not while you’re walking, but you get the gist.

And to be honest… That’s basically all the advantages I can think of for a laptop over a stationary beast PC. But sometimes that’s all you can use. Now, let’s get into some specific laptops that are great for Blender in 2022.

What to look for when buying a laptop for 3D modeling

First and foremost, you want to make sure that the laptop has a powerful CPU. Blender is a CPU-intensive program, so you want to make sure that your laptop can handle it. You also want to make sure that the laptop has a good amount of RAM. I would recommend at least 16 GB of RAM. And finally, you want to make sure that the laptop has a dedicated GPU. This is important because Blender uses OpenGL to render its graphics, and a dedicated GPU will help with this.

Animation, modeling, sculpting, compositing, simulations, and geometry nodes, all use your CPU as the main hardware. If you plan on spending the majority of your time in Blender doing any of the above, I suggest looking at getting a laptop with a beefy CPU. You’ll want a CPU that has cores with high speeds, don’t be fooled by thinking more cores=more power. It’s the speed of each individual core that matters.

You will need at least 16 GBs of RAM in your laptop, but preferably more, something like 32 or even higher. Having too little RAM will cause Blender to be slow and most likely crash because it doesn’t have enough memory to compute all the calculations.

If you plan on doing renders, stills, or videos, you’ll need to take the 2 main render engines of Blender into consideration. Eevee and Cycles can both produce great results but arguably, Cycles is the better of the two, it is however a lot more resource-intensive. If you’re planning on using the latter option, we have a guide on how to speed up renders in Cycles.

To get decent speeds with Cycles, or even Eevee, you need a dedicated GPU with at least 6 GB of VRAM or more. Most gaming laptops will have decent GPUs, just make sure to look at their VRAM because a lot of them can be in the lower end there.

Now that we know what to look for in a laptop for Blender, let’s get into some specific laptops.

Cheapest budget laptop for blender

Legion 5

When it comes to laptops for 3D modeling and Blender, the Lenovo 5 is a great option. It’s powerful enough to handle even the most demanding tasks, yet still portable enough to take with you on the go. Plus, its affordable price makes it a great value for the money.

If you’re looking for a laptop that can handle everything you throw at it, the Lenovo 5 is a great choice. It’s powered by a 2.5GHz Intel Core i7 processor and 8GB of RAM, so it can easily handle demanding tasks like 3D modeling and rendering. Plus, its 1TB hard drive gives you plenty of storage space for all your files and projects.

One of the things that makes the Lenovo 5 so great for Blender is its 15.6-inch Full HD display. This gives you plenty of space to work with, and the visuals are absolutely stunning. Plus, the laptop comes with a free year of Office 365, so you can get started on your projects right away.

The best laptop

ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15

If you’re looking for a powerful and portable laptop for your 3D modeling and rendering needs, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 is a great option to consider. It’s packed with high-end hardware like an Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 GPU, making it more than capable of handling even the most demanding 3D modeling software. Plus, its compact 15-inch form factor makes it easy to take with you on the go.

One thing to keep in mind, however, is that the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 is a bit on the expensive side. So if you’re working with a tight budget, you may want to consider a different laptop option. But if you can swing the price, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 is definitely a great choice for a 3D modeling laptop.
